Today we learnt about positive and negative space - what it is and how we can use it to create different compositions.
To comprehend what positive and negative space is we used large balls of string and thread and strung it across the room at varying heights, we also twisted and tied it at different points in the room to cover the entire room.
With great difficulty and skills of a super-flexible spy we moved around the space to look at how the string made different compositions from different angles.
We also drew small compositions that we found interesting (which was so difficult- drawing string isn't that exciting really.)
Then afterwards we used tissue paper to fill in some of the spaces to make the areas positive - which was a task since it was hard to tape the paper to the string with it floating away or fearing that the string would snap and it would all fall down - but this added some colour and depth where it was sorely needed in this massive string sculpture.
Again we made observational drawings but again I found it hard again to draw that as well since the tissue paper was all crumpled and since it wasn't a perfect fit to the string when i drew it it didn't look right - but I think it was mainly because I was out of practice with drawing.
